Guala Closures, which has always sought to be the forerunner in technology, product excellence and innovation, has committed to a long-term eco-responsible strategy. Launched in 2010 in the wine segment, today this strategy conveys a strong, clear message to Group customers.
In 2012, the Group will sell 500 million eco-responsible screwcaps (Divinum®, Wak® e Roll On Te®) on the international market, which have obtained the top label from the independent certification body Ecocert Environnement.
The top label: a sign of certified eco-responsible quality
top is the first and only label on the wine screwcap market. It is a private label, developed in 2010 by a group formed of experts in oenology, lifecycle assessment, carbon footprints, environmental NGO and specialists from the Guala Closures Group.
The top label means that Guala Closures can guarantee its customers the certified eco-responsible quality of its screwcaps, and more specifically:
• Quality and security
• Tangible, committed eco-responsible behaviour
• Actual offset of the CO2 emissions generated by the production of screwcaps
Obtaining the top label is subject to an audit - conducted by Ecocert Environnement - to verify that all criteria have been met, including the actual offset of CO2 emissions and the validity of the related project.
Ecocert Environnement has conducted on-site audits at the production plants of Torre d'Isola (Italy), Footscray (Australia) and Auckland (New Zealand), for Divinum®, Wak® and Roll On Te® closures.
The top label: a stringent set of criteria
The top label technical charter is based on a set of 11 precise, objective and measurable criteria:
• 3 criteria on the quality and security of the closures (the seal must be tamper-proof, total absence of contamination, no TCA)
• 7 criteria on the environmental impact of production (minimum % of recycled aluminium used, programme to reduce energy consumption, Life Cycle Assessment, transport, ...)
• 1 criterion on the offsetting of CO2 emissions (100% of the emissions generated during the production cycle of the screwcaps, up to their final delivery to the customer)
It is a valid and motivating label for the company: the more it reduces the impact of its production in terms of CO2 emissions, the lower the cost of offsetting.

500 MILLION eco-responsible screwcaps
In 2012, the Guala Closures Group will offset the CO2 emissions generated by the production of 500 million Divinum®, Wak® and Roll On Te® screwcaps produced in Italy, Australia and New Zealand. This will be achieved through a reforestation project in Peru (click to find out more).
