GUALA CLOSURES GOES SHOPPING DOWN UNDER

Guala Closures has confirmed itself the worldwide leader in the production of non-refillable closures and screwcaps for the wine and spirits industry following its acquisition of the wine screwcap manufacturing business ASA (Anthony Smith Australia Pty Ltd) for an undisclosed sum.

This is the fifth acquisition for the company in the last 18 months, and follows four months after its purchase of a 70% stake in Polish company DGS. Guala Closures specialises in unique and innovative wine closures developed at its five R&D centres, most notably: WAK™ - which enhances the aesthetic presentation of the brand, Viiva™ - specifically developed for sparkling wine and the latest Roll-On TE™ - dedicated to the fight against wine adulteration. These closures complete the range which started with the standard 30X60 Divinum, currently number one in terms of worldwide sales.

The purchase confirms Guala Closures’ complete leadership in the Australian and New Zealand markets. The company recently installed new production lines in its Melbourne plant (one of 24 worldwide) to facilitate a direct local supply of its full range of wine closures. The acquisition of the ASA operation will further increase and enhance both production and brand design capabilities for local customers.
